“Mission Hills – St Andrews” Home to Home Scholarship Fundraising Championship scheduled for August

2014-07-10

Registrations open. Winning team to visit St Andrews

The 2nd "Mission Hills – St Andrews Home to Home Scholarship Fundraising Championship " will be held at Mission Hills Dongguan Olazabal Course on August 28th, 2014.

The “Mission Hills – St Andrews Home to Home Scholarship Fundraising Championship " was jointly established by St. Andrews University and Mission Hills in 2013, on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of St. Andrews University and the 20th anniversary of Mission Hills Golf Club. The former is where golf originated - the “Home of Golf”, while the latter is a golf pioneer in China. The tournament is set to carve a niche in golf’s history as an exceptional charity golf event.

Charity funds to nurture junior golfers in China
This year’s tournament will kick off at 11:30 am on August 28th, and includes a charity auction where funds raised will be transferred to the Youth Development Fund. These funds will be used to send outstanding young local golfers to the University of St Andrews, the “Home of Golf”, to pursue further studies.

The inaugural event held last year received tremendous support from R & A global golf ambassador Liang Wenchong. Auctioned items included an oil painting of the Muirfield Golf Club autographed by the 2013 British Open champion Phil Mickelson, who has played with Liang Wenchong, an antique St Andrews golf club, classic golf sports photographs of Tom Watson, member of the Golf Hall of Fame, Zhang Lianwei’s golf bag, Ian Poulter autographed British Open tournament green flags, etc. Many significant and precious collector’s items were intensely bid for by attending golfers. This year’s auction will bring even more surprises for everyone.

Winning team has chance to visit St Andrews

This year 30 professional and 90 amateur golfers will team up to compete in the tournament. The professional golfers will concurrently participate in an individual stroke play event.

One professional golfer will partner with three amateur golfers to form a team. The professional golfer’s score and total scores of the two best amateur golfers will be taken as the team score. The team with the best score will win the tournament and have an opportunity to experience golf at St. Andrews, visit golf museums and walk through the hallowed halls of the historic St Andrews University.

Mission Hills – St Andrews Home to Home Scholarship Fundraising Championship registrations are now open to all professional and amateur golfers.
